Gandmool Dosha is said to arise when the Moon at birth falls in one of six junction (sandhi) nakshatras — Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola or Revati — that sit at the sensitive boundaries between signs. This tool reads your Moon's nakshatra from your date, time and place of birth, tells you whether it is a Gandmool nakshatra, and shows the Moon's pada and nakshatra lord. Where the dosha is present, it is traditionally addressed with a Gandmool Shanti puja rather than treated as a curse.
Gandmool Dosha depends entirely on the Moon's nakshatra at birth. Only six of the twenty-seven nakshatras qualify — the ones ruled by Ketu and Mercury that lie at the zodiac's fire-water junctions:
Not every Gandmool birth is read the same way. The pada (quarter) the Moon occupies matters: the padas closest to the sign boundary — the first pada of a beginning nakshatra or the last pada of an ending one — are considered the most sensitive, while the others are milder. This calculator shows your Moon's exact pada so you can see where it falls.
Classically the effect is eased, not feared. Birth in a Gandmool nakshatra is traditionally addressed with a Gandmool Shanti puja, performed on or after the 27th day when the Moon returns to the same nakshatra. Astrologers also note that strong benefic support, such as Jupiter's aspect, can reduce it — and many accomplished people are born in these nakshatras.
Gandmool Dosha is said to occur when the Moon at birth lies in one of six junction nakshatras — Ashwini, Ashlesha, Magha, Jyeshtha, Moola or Revati. These sit at the fire-water boundaries of the zodiac, which classical texts flag for extra care in early life.
Six: Ashwini, Magha and Moola (ruled by Ketu) at the start of a sign, and Ashlesha, Jyeshtha and Revati (ruled by Mercury) at the end of a sign. If your Moon is in any other nakshatra, the dosha is not present.
The traditional remedy is a Gandmool Shanti puja, usually performed on the 27th day after birth when the Moon returns to the same nakshatra. It is regarded as a calming rite rather than a cure for a curse, and the effect is considered mild when benefic support is present.
