Rahu and Ketu are always exactly opposite each other, so they cut the zodiac into two halves. The tool takes the seven grahas from the Sun to Saturn and asks whether every one of them sits in the same half. If they do, the condition is present; if even one falls in the other half, it is not the full dosha.
The near miss has a name and the tool reports it. When exactly one graha spills over the axis, that is Aanshik or partial Kaal Sarp, and it is held to be the weakest of the forms. Reporting it separately matters, because a chart with one planet outside the arc is often described loosely as having the dosha when the classical description does not fit.
Two charts can both have every planet on one side and still be graded differently. If the planets fall in the arc swept forward from Rahu to Ketu, that is the serpent's mouth, called the Sarpa form and held to be the stronger. If they fall in the opposite arc, from Ketu to Rahu, that is the Kaal Amrita or Anuloma form, described as the milder.
The twelve names come from Rahu's house, not from the direction: Anant in the 1st, Kulik in the 2nd, Vasuki in the 3rd, Shankhpal in the 4th, Padma in the 5th, Mahapadma in the 6th, Takshak in the 7th, Karkotak in the 8th, Shankhachud in the 9th, Ghatak in the 10th, Vishdhar in the 11th and Sheshnag in the 12th. Kaal Sarp is traditional lore rather than a named classical yoga, and AstroZivi says so on the page. It is absent from the Brihat Parashara Hora Shastra, which is the text most of this engine's yoga definitions are cited to, and no chapter and verse for it has been located. The ordering above, Sarpa strong, Amrita mild, Aanshik weakest, is the tradition's own ranking, reported as such.
