Select your Moon Sign (Rashi) for today's prediction

This is read from your Moon sign, not your Sun sign

This reading is reckoned from your MOON sign - the sign the Moon occupied at your birth - and not from your Sun sign. Phaladeepika 26.1 says that of all the lagnas it is the Moon's alone that governs a transit reading, and every reading in Bṛhat Saṁhitā chapter 104 is worded 'from the sign occupied by the Moon at the time of birth'.

What each period is - and why the week isn't one

DailyDay (vāra)

No place was supplied, so the civil calendar day stands in for the vāra. Sūrya Siddhānta XIV.18 puts the true boundary at sunrise.

WeeklySeven days (saptāha) - a summary, not a classical period

No place was supplied, so the civil calendar day stands in for the vāra. Sūrya Siddhānta XIV.18 puts the true boundary at sunrise.

MonthlySolar month (saura māsa)

The solar month runs from one saṅkrānti to the next - Sūrya Siddhānta XIV.3 names 'the propitious period of the sun's entrance into a sign', and XIV.10 makes the twelve such months the year. The boundary here is the ingress INSTANT; the four regional rules for which CIVIL day the month begins on disagree by up to two days and are computed separately.

YearlyYear (varṣa - the solar return)

No birth data was supplied, so the Tājika solar return could not be computed. The window shown is the SAURA year instead - Mesha saṅkrānti to Mesha saṅkrānti, which Sūrya Siddhānta XIV.10 makes of twelve solar months. The varṣaphala layer is reported as unavailable rather than approximated from it: a saura year and a solar-return year are different objects with different boundaries.

By topic

Each topic is one or more bhāvas (BPHS ch. 11 vv. 2-13) and their kāraka grahas (Phaladeepika 15.17). In two places the text contradicts common practice and we followed the text: learning is the 5th bhāva, not the 4th, and trade is the 7th, not the 10th.

What these readings rest on

Every gochara rule is counted from the natal Moon's sign, so a Moon-sign horoscope is not a degraded birth chart - it is the complete input the gochara chapter asks for. What it cannot reach - tārā bala, lattā, any daśā, Varṣaphala, Aṣṭakavarga - is named on every page rather than quietly filled in.
